This THP is about 11 miles SW of the town of Dorris, CA near the CA/OR border and Highway 97 at an elevation of 4,800 to 5,800 feet.  Timber Products is planning a tractor based mostly clearcut THP in Douglas fir, white fir, ponderosa pine and sugar pine forest near Shovel Creek which flows into the Klamath River above Copco Dam.  The THP also includes an 8 acre aspen regeneration project to remove conifers around aspens to encourage sprouting.  Multiple Cooper's hawk nest sites were reported in unit 23, and goshawk nests are known to occur within T47N R03W Sections 11, 14 and 23, and T46N R03W Sections 2 and 12.  Units 8, 9, 21 and 24 are within .25 mi of goshawk nests.  Units 8 and 22 are within the .5 mi core habitat for spotted owl area SK496.  This THP will remove 28.8 acres of low quality spotted owl habitat. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
