This THP is about 8 miles east of the town of Westwood, CA, and a few miles south of Highway 36 at an elevation of 5,200 to 6,200 feet. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a mostly clearcut tractor logging operation in white fir, sugar pine, Douglas fir, ponderosa pine and incense cedar forest. The THP area shares an access road to Forest Service Roxie Peconom Campground, and there are 2 road segments of the 60A and 60A1 roads that have been damaged in section 36 by unauthorized road use. There is a shallow landslide feature on steep slopes over 65% in unit 627, and a .5 acre area with steep slopes over 65% where trees will need to be end lined. Sixteen road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction and culvert maintenance. Sandhill cranes were reported in a wet meadow adjacent to unit 610, and a population of penstemon sudans was found near units in sections 1 and 36. There are 4 CA spotted owl territories within 1.3mi, the closest being within .5mi. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.Tweet
