California Edison to log near Shaver Lake and the Dinkey Creek Cabin Community.

THP 4-13-020 FRE (Lex THP) Southern California Edison Company, 453 acres; 100% selection logging.  Summit Creek, Providence Creek (MD: T10S R25E Sec.14, 23).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 65%, road failure site, 6 road drainage work sites, 4 CA spotted owls within 1.3mi, bald eagle and goshawk sightings nearby, scattered large trees. Estimated public comment deadline: 11/14/13.

This THP is about 5 miles SE of Shaver Lake and Highway 168 near the Dinkey Creek Cabin Community at an elevation of 4,600 to 6,040 feet.  Southern California Edison Company is planning a tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, Jeffrey pine, sugar pine, white fir and incense cedar forest.  The THP area flows into Providence Creek and eventually into the Kings River.  There are 6 road drainage sites planned for work including rocking, dip construction, culvert repair and replacement, and road bed reconstruction.   200 feet of road reconstruction is planned to fix a class III watercourse that has been diverted through a road bed.  Northern goshawks and bald eagles have been spotted nearby along Providence Creek Road.  There are historic willow flycatcher sightings (1982) and habitat .75 mi from the THP area at Lost Meadow. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
