This THP is 4 miles north of Fortuna, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 440 to 1,200 feet. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a feller buncher, shovel and cable logging operation in redwood and Douglas fir forest. The THP area drains the Salmon Creek watershed which flows into Humboldt Bay and the Pacific Ocean. There are 9 unstable areas including shallow rapid landslides, and debris slides located in units A, C and D. 11,000 feet of new temporary road is proposed, and there are 12 road drainage sites planned for work including rocking, dip construction, and culvert repair and replacement. Although most of the trees to be logged will be under 48” dbh, there is 1 large old growth redwood tree reported to be over 120" dbh. There are osprey nests reported to be within .25 mi of Salmon 1000 road, and also the Salmon 2000 road. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
