Roseburg Resources Company to clearcut log near Dunsmuir, CA.

THP 2-13-066 SIS (Knott Mott THP) Roseburg Resources Company, 347 acres; 93% clearcut, 5% selection, 2% roadside logging.  Hedge Creek, Mott (MD: T39N R3W Sec.6, 7, 18).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, unstable areas, 51 road drainage work sites, herbicides, peregrine falcon sighting, osprey sightings near the Sacramento River, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 11/07/13.

This THP is a few miles north and east of the town of Dunsmuir, CA and the I-5 corridor at an elevation of 2,800 to 4,640 feet.  Roseburg Resources Company is planning a tractor and cable clearcut logging operation in Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, white fir, incense cedar and sugar pine forests.  10, 804 feet of new road construction is planned, and 51 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction and culvert repair and replacement.  They also want to use tracked excavators in units designed for cable logging to do site preparation.  Roseburg has a waiver from the Fish & Wildlife Service not to survey for spotted owls within the THP area until 2016. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
