Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log near Euerka, CA and Highway 101.

THP 1-13-110 HUM (OH 14' THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 184 acres; 42% commercial thinning, 37% clearcut, 12% selection, 7% no-harvest, 2% roadside logging.  Fay Slough, Lower Jacoby Creek (HUM: T5N R1E Sec.15, 16, 21, 22).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 80%, steep roads, 3 unstable areas in unit D, road failure sites, 17 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, 2 spotted owls within 1.3mi, southern torrent salamander in unit C, osprey and peregrine falcon nests within .25 mi, trees up to 50" dbh.  Estimated public comment: 12/22/13. VIEW

This THP is a few miles NE of Eureka, CA near Highway 101 and Freshwater Creek which is  listed as impaired for sedimentation.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation with some clearcut logging in redwood, Douglas fir and western hemlock forests.  There are 3 unstable areas in Unit D, and several road failure sites related to crossings including sink holes and bank failures.  9,815 feet of temporary, seasonal and road re-construction is planned, and 185 feet of steep seasonal road in unit D is proposed for construction on slopes over 50% near a watercourse.  There are also 17 road drainage sites planned for work including rocking, dip construction, culvert repair and replacement and ditch cleaning.  Southern torrents salamanders were spotted in unit C, and a peregrine falcon erie is located within .25 miles of units B and D, and .5 miles of units A and C.  There are historic osprey nests within .25 mi of units A,B,C and D, and spotted owl territories are located within .25 miles of units B and D, and also within .5 miles of units A and C. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
