Roseburg Resources Company to clearcut near Dunsmuir and the Pacific Crest Trail.

THP 2-13-103 SHA (Ponykeg THP) Roseburg Resources Company, 520 acres; 92% clearcut, 7% selection, 1% roadside logging.  Middle Soda Creek, Lower Soda Creek (MD: T38N R3W Sec.5, 6, 7; T38N R4W Sec.12; T39N R3W Sec.32).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes over 65%, steep roads, 7 unstable areas, 68 road drainage work sites, oversized units, herbicides, pacific crest trail, 1 spotted owl within 1.3mi, trees up to 24" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 01/20/14. VIEW

This THP is about 2 miles SE of Dunsmuir, CA and Highway 5 at an elevation of 2,240 to 4,760 feet near the Pacific Crest Trail (The PCT traverses through units 0709 and 0710).  Roseburg Resources Company is planning a clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, Douglas fir, white fir and incense cedar.  There are 7 unstable areas including debris slides and earth flows in units 0601, 0603, 0607 and 0502.  Roseburg Resources Company wants to use heavy equipment inside a class I and class II watercourse, use tractors inside units designated for cable logging, and to use heavy equipment on skid roads in units 0702 and 0602 with steep slopes over 65% grade.  They also are planning to construct short segments of roads between 15% to 20% grade, and to construct a full bench road on steep slopes over 65% grade.  68 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
