W.M. Beaty & Associates planning a THP near Shingletown, CA

THP 2-13-095 SHA (Bonnie Craigs THP) W.M. Beaty & Associates, 1071 acres; 99% selection, 1% no-harvest logging.  Lower South Fork Bear Creek, Upper Lack Creek, North Fork Bear Creek, Shingle Creek (MD: T31N R1E Sec.4, 9, 16, 17, 30; MD: T31N R1W Sec.25, 36).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, slopes up to 65%, 2 unstable areas, 48 road drainage work sites, Chinook watershed, osprey nest within 650 feet, bald eagle sightings within 1.2 mi, goshawk sightings within 1.2 mi, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline:  01/02/14. VIEW

This THP is  few miles north and west of Shingletown, CA and Highway 44 at an elevation of 2,480 to 3,680 feet.  W.M. Beaty & Associates is planning a tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, incense cedar, Douglas fir and white fir forests.  There are 2 dormant unstable areas on adjacent lands related to a scarp and road, and 3 landings and 1 skid road are proposed for use inside a watercourse area.  48 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction and culvert repair and maintenance.  An osprey nest is located approximately 650 feet east of the THP area in section 30.  Northern goshawks were reported to be 1.2 miles SE of the THP area in section 32, and bald eagles were reported to be 1.2 miles east of the THP area at Woodridge Lake. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
