Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut near Big Lagoon and Trinidad.

THP 1-14-013 HUM (BL2230 15 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 81 acres; 84% clearcut, 11% selection, 4% no-harvest, 1% roadside logging.  Pitcher Creek (HUM: T9N R1E Sec.28, 32, 33).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 80%, landslide terrain, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, 5 spotted owls within 1.3mi, trees up to 48" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 03/20/14. VIEW

This THP is about 5 miles NE of Trinidad, CA and about 2 miles SE of Big Lagoon and Highway 101. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in redwood, Sitka spruce, hemlock, Douglas fir and grand fir forests at an elevation of 200 to 840 feet.  The THP area flows into Maple Creek which has been heavily clearcut by Green Diamond Resource Company in the past, and contains steelhead, coastal cutthroat trout, Coho and Chinook salmon.  There are steep streamside slopes in unit A, and deep seated landslide terrain in unit B.  Shovel equipment is proposed for use within a class II watercourse in unit B. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
