Mendocino Redwood Company to log on steep slopes near Philo.

THP 1-14-063 MEN (Mid South Greenwood THP) Mendocino Redwood Company, 230 acres; 37% variable retention, 30% transition, 23% selection, 5% group selection, 5% seed tree logging.  Upper Greenwood Creek (MD: T14N R15W Sec.18, 19; T14N R16W Sec.13).  Wet weather operations, high erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 75%, steep roads, landslide terrain, 15 road drainage work sites, herbicides, coho watershed, 3 spotted owls within 1.3mi, long beard lichen, trees up to 48" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 07/20/14. VIEW

This THP is about 6 miles west of Philo, CA and Highway 128 within the interior of the Mendocino coastline.  The THP area drains westward down Greenwood Creek into the Pacific Ocean.  Mendocino Redwood Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation in redwood and Douglas fir forests at an elevation of 500 to 2,200 feet.  They want to use ground based equipment on existing skid trails with slopes over 65% grade, and construct a steep road that exceeds 15% grade for 500 feet or more.  15 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction and culvert repair and replacement. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
