Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log near Redwood National Park.

THP 1-14-085 HUM (BL 1000/2000 Junction 15 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 199.5 acres; 74% clearcut, 13% selection, 13% no-harvest logging.  Maple Creek (HUM: T8N R1E Sec.12, 13, 24; T8N R2E Sec.5, 6, 7, 8, 18, 19; T9N R2E Sec.31).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes over 65%, steep streamside slopes in units B and C, herbicides, oversized units, redwood national park adjacent to units A and C, coho watershed, 4 spotted owls within 1.3mi, southern torrent salamander, steelhead & coastal cutthroat trout adjacent to unit F, running pine, trees up to 72" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 09/15/14. VIEW

This THP is about 7 miles NE of Trinidad, CA and Highway 101 near the southern boundary of Redwood National Park.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in redwood, Douglas fir, grand fir and western hemlock forests at an elevation of 600 to 2,300 feet.  The THP area flows into Maple Creek and Big Lagoon which contains coho, chinook, steelhead and coastal cutthroat trout.  16 acres of Special Treatment Area (STA) are planned in units A and C to minimize (hide) the effects of logging adjacent to Redwood National Park.  There is a marbled murrelet stand adjacent to a haul road. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
