Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log at Snow Camp Lake.

THP 1-14-087 HUM (Snow Camp Lake 15 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 123.7 acres; 70% clearcut, 27% selection, 2% roadside, 1% no-harvest logging.  Twin Lakes Creek, Bradford Creek (HUM: T4N R4E Sec.5, 6, 8, 9).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, landslide terrain, road failure site, steep slopes up to 70%, steep roads, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, coho watershed, 12+ spotted owls within 1.3mi, Sonoma tree vole and southern torrent salamander in unit D, trees up to 40" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 09/26/14. VIEW

This THP is about 18 miles east of Eureka, CA at Snow Camp Lake.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut feller buncher, cable and shovel logging operation in Douglas fir, white fir, sugar pine and incense cedar forests.  The THP area drains into Redwood Creek which is listed as impaired for sediment and temperature.  There are 3 unstable areas in the THP area, including rockslides in units A, B and D, and a cut bank failure on the Roddiscraft Road in unit D.  Three steep temporary road segments are proposed for construction over 15% grade in units A, B and D.  A spotted owl nesting territory is within .5mi of Unit A. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
