Collins Pine Company planning a pair of THPs west of Lake Almanor.

THP 2-14-085 PLU (Prather THP) Collins Pine Company, 3,100 acres; 96% group selection, 4% no-harvest, misc aspen/meadow restoration logging.  Humbug Valley, Soldier Creek, Lower Coyote Flat, Shanghai Creek (MD: T27N R6E Sec.14, 15, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 35, 36; T27N R7E Sec.30).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 60%, 75 road drainage work sites, multiple CA spotted owl, goshawk, fisher, willow flycatcher, bald eagle, sandhill crane and cascade frog sightings, trees up to 50" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 11/22/14. VIEW

This THP is about 7 miles SW of Chester, CA and 4 miles SW of Lake Almanor at an elevation of 4,400 to 5,500 feet.  Collins Pine Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, Douglas fir and incense cedar forests.  5 spur roads and 2 landings are proposed inside class II (mid sized) watercourses.  There is a 3 acre aspen and meadow enhancement project proposed to remove encroaching conifers.  75 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction and culvert repair and replacement.  Wildlife occurrences include 12 goshawk sightings, 1 fisher sighting, 4 willow flycatcher sightings at Butt Creek, Soldier Creeks, and Humbug Valley, cascade frog sightings at Butt Creek and Fanani Meadows, sandhill crane sightings at Humbug Valley and bald eagle sightings at Butt and Soldier Creeks.  There are 11 bald eagle nesting territories and 11 CA spotted owl territories within the THP area.  

THP 2-14-086 PLU (Marian Creek THP) Collins Pine Company, 2,035 acres; 98% group selection, 2% aspen/meadow restoration logging.  Upper Coyote Flat, Soldier Creek (MD: T28N R6E Sec.16, 17, 20, 21, 28, 29).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 55%, 30 road drainage work sites, pacific crest trail, 5 CA spotted owls within 1.3 mi, goshawk and fisher sightings, trees up to 40" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 11/24/14. VIEW

This THP is about 3.5 miles SW of Chester, CA and 4 miles west of Lake Almanor at an elevation of 4,800 to 6,000 feet.  Sections 17, 20 and 29 are adjacent to the Pacific Crest Trail. Collins Pine Company is planning a tractor logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, Douglas fir and incense cedar forests.  There is a 40 acre aspen and meadow enhancement project proposed to remove encroaching conifers.  30 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction and culvert repair and replacement.  Wildlife occurrences include 17 sightings of goshawk, and 4 sightings of fisher in the THP area. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
