Mendocino Redwood Company to log NW of Ukiah

THP 1-14-121 MEN (10 Mile THP) Mendocino Redwood Company, 549 acres; 43% transition, 31% variable retention, 18% seed tree, 8% no-harvest logging.  Upper Ackerman Creek (MD: T15N R13W Sec.6, 7; T15N R14W Sec.1, 12; T16N R13W Sec.31; T16N R14W Sec.36).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes over 60%, 28 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, 1 spotted owl within .7 mi, north coast semaphore grass, white flowered rein orchid, trees up to 36" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 12/14/14. VIEW

This THP is about 5 miles NW of Ukiah, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 1,200 to 2,489 feet.  Mendocino Redwood Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation in Douglas fir forests.  The THP area flows into the Russian River which is listed as impaired for sediment and contains coho, chinook and steelhead trout.  Mendocino Redwood Company is planning to use tractors in areas designated for cable logging.  3 populations of north coast semaphore grass were found in unit 2, and white flowered rein orchid was found along an existing seasonal road. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
