Roseburg Resources Company to clearcut log near Big Bend, CA.

THP 2-14-101 SHA (Nelsson THP) Roseburg Resources Company, 384 acres; 94% clearcut, 6% selection, misc roadside logging.  Little Roaring Creek, Roaring Creek (MD: T36N R1E Sec.29, 30, 31, 32; T36N R1W Sec.36).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, unstable area, 16 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, 3 CA spotted owls within 1.3 mi, goshawk nest in unit 3010, English peak greenbriar, trees up to 24" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 01/08/15. VIEW

This THP is 5 miles south of Big Bend, CA and about 6 miles north of Montgomery Creek and Highway 299 at an elevation of 2,760 to 3,720 feet.  Roseburg Resources Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, white fir, incense cedar, sugar pine and Douglas fir forests.  There is an unstable area located in unit 3111 that is marked as a "special treatment area”. The THP area flows into the Pit River upstream from Lake Shasta.  16 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction and culvert repair and replacement.  English peak greenbriar was found in units 3010 and 3011. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
