Green Diamond Resource Company to log on steep and unstable slopes near Eureka.

THP 1-15-001 HUM (McKay R8 Combo THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 299.5 acres; 81% commercial thin, 11% no-harvest, 8% clearcut, misc selection, misc roadside logging.  Ryan Slough (HUM: T4N R1E Sec.5, 6, 7, 8; T4N R1W Sec.1, 2, 12).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 70%, landslide terrain in units B and D, 17 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, oversized units, coho watershed, 8 spotted owls within 1.3 mi, peregrine falcon and osprey within .25 mi, coastal cutthroat trout and steelhead nearby, trees up to 40" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 02/19/15. VIEW

This THP is a few miles SE of Eureka, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 100 to 700 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir and sitka spruce forests.  The THP area contains landslide terrain in units B and D, and flows down Ryan Creek into Humboldt Bay. 17 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  There is a peregrine falcon erie and an osprey nest within .25 mi of unit B, and several of the R line roads.  Coastal cutthroat trout and steelhead were reported to be in streams adjacent to units A, B and C.  Spotted owl nesting territories are located within .25 mi of units B, C and D, and also within .5 mi of unit A. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
