Green Diamond Resource Company to log NE of Eureka, CA.

THP 1-15-026 HUM (G-140 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 181.4 acres; 36% clearcut, 33% commercial thin, 16% selection, 15% no-harvest logging.  Lower Jacoby Creek (HUM: T5N, R1E, Sec 10,14,15).  Wet weather operations, high erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 65%, 9 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, 3 spotted owls within 1.3 mi, bald eagle within .52 mi, 26 osprey nests within .25 mi, 2 peregrine falcon nests within .25 mi, southern torrent salamander sightings in units D,E and G, trees up to 40" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 05/10/15. VIEW

This THP is about 5 miles NE of Eureka, CA and about a mile south of Bayside and Highway 101.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation in redwood, Douglas fir, grand fir and western hemlock forests. The THP area drains into Jacoby Creek which is listed as impaired for sediment and contains chinook, coho salmon, steelhead, and coastal cutthroat trout.  9 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, culvert repair/replacement and re-construction of washed out crossings. There are 26 current and historic osprey nest sites within .25 mi of the THP area; including 2 nests within unit A, one nest within unit B, and 2 nests within unit F.  One bald eagle territory lies .52 mi west of the THP area, and 2 peregrine falcon nests are located within .25 mi of unit B, and within .5 mi of units A,C,D,E and G.  Spotted owl nesting territories are located within .5 mi of unit B. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
