Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut adjacent to the town of Burney, CA.

THP 2-15-023 SHA (Rabbit THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 516 acres; 97% clearcut, 3% fuel break logging. Jackrabbit Flat, Washburn Bue Park (MD: T34N, R3E, Sec 5,6,7; T35N, R3E, Sec 29,30,31,32).  Winter operations, low erosion hazard, slopes up to 30%, herbicides, goshawk nest within 100 ft, trees up to 120 years old.  Estimated public comment deadline: 06/01/15. VIEW

This THP is .5 mi south of Burney, CA and Highway 299 at an elevation of 3,200 to 4,400 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a tractor based logging operation in white fir, Douglas fir, incense cedar, sugar pine and ponderosa pine forests. The THP includes 14 acres of fuel break in conjunction with the Burney Community Fuelbreak Project. There is a goshawk nest (2014) within 100 ft of unit 7B in section 7, a bald eagle territory 3.5 miles away in section 6, and an historic (1992) osprey territory 4 miles away in section 3. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
