Green Diamond Resource Company planning a pair of clearcut THPs near Trinidad, CA.

THP 1-15-053 HUM (CR2400 15 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 176.5 acres; 77% clearcut, 21% selection, 2% no-harvest logging.  Maple Creek (HUM: T8N R1E Sec.6, 7, 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22; T8N R1W Sec.1, 12).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 75%, landslide terrain, 6 road drainage work sites, herbicides, oversized units, coho watershed, 10 spotted owls within 1.3 mi, 2 osprey nests within .25 mi of haul road, Southern torrent salamanders and tailed frog sightings, trees up to 48” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 07/05/15. VIEW

This THP is a few miles NE of Trinidad, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 600 to 1,300 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut feller buncher, cable and shovel logging operation in Douglas fir, redwood, grand fir, spruce and western hemlock forests. The THP are drains into Maple Creek which drains into Big Lagoon at the Pacific Ocean and contains coho, chinook salmon, coastal cutthroat trout and steelhead.  There is 1 shallow rapid landslide terrain site in the southern portion of unit C.  Six road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and repair/replacement of culverts.  There are 2 osprey nests within .25 mi of haul road CR1400, and southern torrent salamanders and tailed frogs were spotted adjacent to units B,C,D,E and F.  Spotted owl nesting territories are located within .5 mi of unit B.  This THP is just SE of Green Diamond Resource Company’s THP 1-15-055 HUM (CR West 1000 16).  

THP 1-15-055 HUM (CR West 1000 16 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 195 acres; 73% clearcut, 24% selection, 2% visual screening, 1% no-harvest logging.  McDonald Creek (HUM: T8N R1E Sec.18, 19; T8N R1W Sec.1, 2, 11, 12, 13; T9N R1W Sec.35, 36).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 70%, 8 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, oversized units, coho watershed, osprey nest within .25 mi of haul road, northern red-legged frog in unit C, southern torrent salamander near unit D, trees up to 40” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 0710/15. VIEW

This THP is a few miles north of Trinidad, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 400 to 800 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut feller buncher, shovel and cable logging operation in redwood, bishop pine, Douglas fir, sitka spruce and grand fir forests.  4.2 acres adjacent to Highway 101 are designated as a “Special Treatment Area”, and will be lightly logged to hide the effects of clearcutting within unit D.  Eight road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and repair/replacement of culverts. There is an osprey nest site within .25 mi of the BL3000 haul road.  This THP is just NW of Green Diamond Resource Company’s THP 1-15-053 HUM (CR2400 15). More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
