This THP is about 11 miles east of Arnold, CA, and a couple miles west of Beardsley Reservoir near the Camp Mensinger Boy Scout Camp. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a mostly clearcut tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir and incense cedar forests at an elevation of 4,075 to 5,400 feet. SPI wants to use a tracked excavator on slopes up to 50% grade for mechanical site preparation, and use an existing skid trail along the edge of a class II (mid sized) watercourse inside unit 5343. They also want an exception to the Forest Practice Rules to be able to use class III (intermittent) crossings during the winter period. There are 192 acres of so called "operational buffers" around THP units for skid trail access, fire line construction, log loading, tail holds and 42 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, ditch construction, culvert repair/replacement and restoration of washed out crossings. The THP also includes 9 acres of conifer removal around Sourgrass and Pendola Meadows. Two goshawk nesting territories are located nearby in sections 01 and 22. This THP is just east of Sierra Pacific Industries new (Red Soap) THP 4-15-006 TUO. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
