Fruit Growers Supply Company to log in nice high elevation stands north of Westwood, CA.

THP 2-15-070 LAS (Round Valley THP) Fruit Growers Supply Company, 1,487 acres; 57% selection, 25% sanitation salvage, 17% clearcut, 1% shelterwood, misc roadside logging.  Norvell, Pine Lake, Pine Creek Valley (MD: T31N R8E Sec.15, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 33).  Winter operations, low erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 60%, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, 5 CA spotted owls within 1.3 mi, 3 goshawk nests within .25 mi, 2 Sierra Nevada red fox sightings within .75 mi, greater sand hill cranes within .5 mi, 2 badger sightings nearby, trees up to 115 years old.  Estimated public comment deadline: 12/05/15. VIEW

This THP is about 14 miles north of Westwood, CA near the junction of Highway 44 and Lassen County road A21 at an elevation of 5,674 to 6,396 feet.  Fruit Growers Supply Company is planning a tractor based logging operation in high elevation stands of Jeffrey pine, western white pine, red fir, white fir, western hemlock and lodge pole pine.  Two goshawk nests are located within .25 mi of the THP area in section 22, and 1 goshawk nest is located within .25 mi of the THP area in section 21. Multiple Sierra Nevada red fox sightings were reported within .25 mi and .75 mi of the THP area in sections 4, 29 and 34. There have been American marten sightings in the general area, 2 badger sightings in the THP area within section 28, and sandhill cranes have been spotted nesting at nearby long lake and feather lake. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
