Green Diamond Resource Company to log on steep and unstable slopes NE of Crescent City, CA.

THP 1-15-105 DEL (Sultan NB-340 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 213.5 acres; 47% clearcut, 27% commercial thin, 16% selection, 6% no-harvest, 3% roadside, 1% special logging. Little Mill Creek (HUM: T17N R1E Sec.7, 8, 17, 18, 19).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 70%, landslide terrain, road failure sites, 21 road drainage work sites, oversized units, herbicides, coho watershed, 2 spotted owls within 1.3 mi, ruffled grouse sighting, Indian pipe, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 12/05/15. VIEW

This THP is about 8 miles NE of Crescent City, CA and about 4 miles NW of Gasquet, CA and Highway 199 at an elevation of 80 to 1,300 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir and western hemlock forests.  The THP area drains into the Smith River Watershed which contains chinook, coho, steelhead and coastal cutthroat trout.  There are multiple road failure sites including fill failures, cut bank failures, channelized road beds, sink holes and bank sloughing.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning to construct a new temporary road inside a class I (year round) watercourse in unit A.  21 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning, culvert repair/replacement and re-construction of washed out crossings.  Indian Pipe was found in units D, E and F. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
