This THP is about 6 miles SE of Trinity Center and about 5 miles east of Trinity Lake at an elevation of 3,120 to 5,000 feet. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a tractor and cable clearcut logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, sugar pine and incense cedar forests. There is an unstable area in section 5, and wet areas in sections 1, 5 and 7. SPI wants to use tractors on slopes over 50% grade with a high erosion hazard in units 1b, 5C and 5J. Two pacific fisher sightings were reported within 289 and 1,089 feet of unit 5A, 2 historic (1972) sightings of pacific tailed frogs were reported within 1.5 mi of unit 5A, and there is a goshawk nest within 4,654 feet of unit 5A. English peak greenbrier was found in unit 5G, Klamath mountain catchfly was found in units 5A and 5C, Slender false lupine was found in unit 5L, Bear valley buckwheat was found in unit 7C, Northern clarkia was found near unit 7D and the road cut below, and Siskiyou onion was found near unit 7D. For spotted owl nesting territory SHA0020, this THP will reduce foraging habitat by 26 acres within .7 mi; for spotted owl nesting territory SHA0022, this THP will reduce foraging habitat by 63 acres within 1.3 mi; for spotted owl nesting territory SHA0035, this THP will reduce foraging habitat by 4 acres within 1.3 mi; for spotted owl nesting territory SHA0103, this THP will reduce foraging habitat by 13 acres within 1.3 mi.
