Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut log near Beardsley Lake and the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River.

THP 4-15-014 TUO (Middle Fork THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 337 acres; 72% clearcut, 24% fuelbreak, 4% selection, misc roadside logging. Dry Meadow Creek (MD: T4N R16E Sec.13; T4N R17E Sec.7, 16, 17, 18, 21, 28, 29).  Winter operations, high erosion hazard, 2 unstable areas, steep slopes up to 60%, 35 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, 7 CA spotted owls within 1.3 mi, 2 goshawk nest sites > 1 mi, trees up to 60" dbh. This THP is about a dozen miles SE of Arnold, CA near Beardsley Lake and the Middle Fork of the Stanislaus River at an elevation of 3,100 to 4,700 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a tractor based logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, Douglas fir and incense cedar forests.  SPI wants to use 4 skid trails inside class I, class II and class III watercourses, and use tractors at class III (intermittent) watercourse crossings during the winter period. 35 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
