Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut log in the Sacramento Canyon.

THP 2-15-071 SHA (Tater THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 531 acres; 100% clearcut logging, misc roadside logging.  Lower South Fork Sacramento R., Upper South Fork Sacramento R. (MD: T37N R4W Sec.21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 33).  Winter operations, high erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 70%, impaired 303.d watershed, Girard roadless area, herbicides, 2 spotted owls within 1.3 mi, trees up to 36" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 12/05/15. VIEW

This THP is 30 miles north of Redding, CA and 7 miles south of Castella, CA in the Sacramento Canyon at an elevation of 2,000 to 4,000 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, sugar pine and white fir forests.  Sections 24, 25, 26 and 33 are adjacent to the Girard Roadless Area.  Sierra Pacific Industries wants to construct 300 feet of temporary road on steep slopes over 65% grade in unit 28C, and use tractors on steep slopes over 65% grade within units 26A and 27D. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
