Sierra Pacific Industries to clearcut log north of Burney, CA.

THP 2-15-072 SHA (Dana THP) Sierra Pacific Industries, 898 acres; 95% clearcut, 5% fuelbreak logging.  Cayton Creek, Thousand Springs, Dry creek (MD: T38N R3E Sec.9, 10, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 25, 26, 27, 28, 34, 35, 36).  Winter operations, low erosion hazard, slopes up to 50%, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, 4 spotted owls within 1.3 mi, goshawk territory within 1.5 mi, 3 sensitive plant species, trees over 32" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 12/05/15. VIEW

This THP is 15 miles north of Burney, CA near the junction of Highway 89 and Lassen County Road A19 (Dana/McArthur Road).  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut tractor based logging operation in Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, white fir and incense cedar forests at an elevation of 3,300 to 4,200 feet.  There is a goshawk territory within 1.5 mi of THP units in section 7.  Susanville milk vetch was found in unit 16C, California gold banner was found in units 9C, 10A, 16C and 15D, and Silvery false lupine was found in units 35C, 35D, and 36C. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
