There is also an historic (1989) sighting of a Sierra Nevada red fox within 1.6 mi of the THP area in section 9, and an historic (1980) sighting of a pacific fisher within 1,829 feet of the THP area in section 20. Wilkin's bellflower was found within units 21B and 21C.  This THP is just NE of SPI’s 2-15-068 SIS (Panther THP) and 2-15-066 SIS (Red Intake THP).

This THP is about 8 miles east of the city of Mt. Shasta, 3 miles east of the ski area and about 3 to 5 miles north of McCloud, CA at an elevation of 4,600 to 6,700 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in nice high elevation red fir, white fir, sugar pine, Douglas fir, ponderosa pine and incense cedar forests with trees over 40" dbh.  SPI wants to use temporary skid trail crossings inside class III (intermittent) watercourses during the winter period, and use ground based equipment in areas designated for cable logging inside units 1D and 11A.  There were 3 goshawk sightings reported including a sighting over 1,000 feet from the THP area in section 7, a sighting over a mile away in section 12, and a sighting about 2,400 feet from the THP area in section 6. For spotted owl nesting territory SIS0230, this THP will reduce foraging habitat by 71 acres within 1.3 mi.  This THP is just SW of SPI’s 2-15-065 SIS (Cold Pilgrim THP) and NE of SPI’s 2-15-068 SIS (Panther THP). More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
