Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log near the Mad River.

THP 1-15-119 HUM (Wiggings North THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 360.5 acres; 83% clearcut, 13% selection, 2% roadside, 2% no-harvest logging.  Maple Creek, Boulder Creek (HUM: T4N R3E Sec.1, 2, 3; T4N R4E Sec.6; T5N R3E Sec.34, 35).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 80%, landslide terrain, 13 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, oversized units, coho watershed, 12+ spotted owls within 1.3 mi, fisher sighting within unit L, trees up to 48" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 12/25/15. VIEW

This THP is about 15 miles SE of Arcata, CA and about 13 miles SW of Willow Creek, CA at an elevation of 1,985 to 4,280 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut feller buncher, cable and shovel logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in Douglas fir and white fir forests.  The THP area flows into the Mad River which is listed as impaired for sediment, turbidity and temperature.  There are 4 unstable areas including deep seated landslide terrain along the western portion of unit E, and 2 shallow rapid landslide terrain sites in the cable portion of unit E.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning to use shovel logging equipment to deck and load logs from within a class II (mid sized) watercourse along the SC 2000 Road.  13 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, culvert repair/replacement and restoration of washed out crossings.  There are spotted owl nesting territories within .25 mi of units C, E, F, G, and within .5 mi of units A, B, H. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
