This THP is 4 miles SW of Westwood, CA along the eastern shoreline of Lake Almanor. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a mostly shelterwood (large tree overstory removal) tractor and cable logging operation in white fir, Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, red fir, sugar pine and incense cedar forests at an elevation of 4,680 feet to 7,120 feet. 73 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, and culvert repair/replacement. There is a bald eagle nest inside the THP area in section 34, and 3 osprey nests were reported within 1.15 mi including an osprey nest inside the THP area in section 34, an osprey nest within 800 feet of the THP area, and an osprey nest within 1.15 mi of the THP area. Jonesville spring beauty was found in section 1, Dudley’s rush was found in section 6 and Plumas alpine aster was found in sections 2, 12, and 35.
