This THP is about 8 miles NE of Arcata, CA and a few miles NW of the Highway 299 coast range summit at an elevation of 1,500 to 2,000 feet. Green Diamond Resource Company is panning a clearcut and commercial thinning feller buncher, cable and shovel logging operation in redwood and Douglas fir forests. The THP area flows into the Mad River which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment and temperature. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning to re-construct a short segment of existing road across an unstable area, and use ground based equipment on the K&K 600 road inside unit K along a class I watercourse to sort, deck and load logs. Six road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, culvert repair/replacement and re-construction of washed out crossings. Over 6,500 feet of new seasonal road, and 6,500 feet of new temporary road is proposed. There are spotted owl nesting territories within .25 mi of units C, I, J, L, and within .5 mi of units B and K. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
