Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log east of Eureka, CA.

THP 1-15-130 HUM (Two Cabins THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 151 acres; 80% clearcut, 20% selection, misc roadside logging.  Graham Creek, Goodman Prairie Creek, Wilson Creek (HUM: T4N R3E Sec.25, 26, 35, 36).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 75%, landslide terrain, road failure sites, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, coho watershed, 2 spotted owls within 1.3 mi, golden eagle sightings within .5 mi, western pond turtle within 1.68 mi, scattered large trees. This THP is about 18 miles SE of Eureka, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 3,800 to 4,400 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in Douglas fir, white fir and incense cedar forests.  The THP area flows into the Mad River which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment, temperature and turbidity.  There are 3 unstable areas within units C and D, and road construction is proposed on a short segment of temporary road inside a class II (mid sized) watercourse in unit B.  A golden eagle nest is located 2.47 mi south of the THP area, and a western pond turtle was reported 1.68 mi west of unit A.  There are spotted owl nesting territories within .5 mi of unit D. More information is available on the THP Tracking Center website.
