Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log NE of the town of Smith River.

THP 1-16-096 DEL (Lower Rowdy THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 333.5 acres; 55% clearcut, 18% selection, 17% commercial thin, 8% no-harvest, 1% roadside logging.  Lower Rowdy Creek, Dominie Creek (HUM: T18N R1E Sec.7, 8, 17, 18, 19, 20; T18N R1W Sec.12).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 75%, landslide terrain, 3 road drainage work sites, herbicides, oversized units, coho watershed, spotted owl, southern torrent salamanders, tailed frogs, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 10/21/16. VIEW

This THP is about 3 miles NE of the town of Smith River, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of  100 to 1,800 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir and western hemlock forests.  There are shallow rapid landslide terrain sites in units A, C, D, E, F, G and H.  Three road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  Southern torrent salamanders are known to occur in and/or immediately adjacent to units B and H, and coastal tailed frogs are known to occur in and/or immediately adjacent to units A, C and D.  There are 5 spotted owl nesting territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area, including spotted owl nesting territories within .5 miles of unit C.
