Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log south of Patrick’s Point State Park.

THP 1-16-123 HUM (A Line Slope THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 153 acres; 78% clearcut, 17% selection, 4% no-harvest, 2% commercial thin logging.  McDonald Creek (HUM: T8N R1E Sec.18; T8N R1W Sec.2, 12; T9N R1W Sec.25, 35, 36).  Wet weather operations moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 70%, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, highway 101, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, marbled murrelet, osprey, trees over 40" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 01/07/17. VIEW

This THP is about 3 miles north of Trinidad, CA and a few miles south of Patrick’s Point State Park adjacent to Highway 101 at an elevation of 560 to 1,720 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in redwood, Douglas fir, Sitka spruce and grand fir forests.  Three acres of special treatment area are proposed within unit C along Highway 101 to hide the effects of clear cutting, and a temporary road is proposed in unit C along the edge of a class I (year round) watercourse.  There is a great blue heron rockery 2 miles NE of the THP area, an historic osprey nests exists within .25 miles of the LP Mill Road, and marbled murrelet habitat exists on Harry Merlo State Park lands within .25 miles of the LP Mill Road.  Two spotted owl nesting territories are located within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
