This THP is about 8 miles west of Bear Valley Ski Area and about 13 miles NE of Arnold, CA and Highway 4 at an elevation of 5,400 to 6,400 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a tractor based sanitation salvage, shelterwood (overstory removal) and clearcut logging operation in white fir, incense cedar, red fir, sugar pine and Jeffrey pine forests.  The THP area is close to Salt Springs Reservoir, a popular swimming and hydroelectric reservoir on the Upper Mokelumne River.  SPI is planning to use an existing landing within a watercourse area, and construct and/or expand landings during the winter period.  13 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  A historic goshawk territory and sightings were recorded within .25 miles of the THP area in sections 15 and 22, and an historic (1995) Sierra Nevada yellow legged frog was reported 1.5 miles from the THP area.  Three species of moonworts (upswept moonwort, scalloped moonwort, Mingan moonwort) were found within class II (mid sized) watercourses and also within unit 4769, Stebbens desert parsley was found on a lava cap surrounding unit 4763, Coleman's piperia was found in units 4749, 4755, 4761, and near unit 4759, and obtuse starwort was found in unit 4769.  There are 5 CA spotted owl territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area, within sections 8, 11, 15, 17 and 22.
