This THP is .5 miles NW of Highway 36 and Chester, CA near Lake Almanor at an elevation of 4,600 to 5,120 feet. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a mostly clearcut tractor based logging operation in Jeffrey pine, ponderosa pine, sugar pine, white fir, Douglas fir and incense cedar forests. Sierra Pacific Industries is planning to use temporary roads and landings during the winter period, construct temporary spur roads under 500 feet without pre-designation, and use seasonal road 30W inside a class I (year round) watercourse. A bald eagle nest is located adjacent to the shaded fuel break unit in section 6, and a bald eagle nest is located .56 miles west of the THP area in section 2. There is a goshawk nest within .4 miles of the THP area in section 24, an osprey nest within .5 miles of the THP area in section 11, and a cascade frog was reported in section 5. An historic (1996) Sierra Nevada Red Fox sighting was reported .13 miles east of the THP area in section 6. Rocky Mountain chickweed was reported in sections 23, 24, 25 and 31. A CA spotted owl nesting territory is located .75 miles east of the THP area in section 30.
