This THP is about 2.5 miles SE of Eureka, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 200 to 1,000 feet. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir and Sitka spruce forests. The THP area is part of Freshwater Creek which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment. There are steep stream side slopes and shallow rapid landslides in units A and D, and 2 road repair sites. 11 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning, culvert repair/replacement and restoration of washed out crossings. Five osprey nests are located near the THP area; including 4 osprey nest within .25 miles of the R Line haul road and a seasonal road, an osprey nest within .25 miles of unit A, and a peregrine falcon nest within .25 miles of the R Line haul road. There are spotted owl nesting territories within .25 miles of units A, B and D, and within .5 miles of unit C.
