Green Diamond Resource Company to log adjacent to former mill site in Korbel, CA.

THP 1-17-048 HUM (Korbel Mill Thin THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 314.5 acres; 84% commercial thin, 11% no-harvest, 3% selection, 2% clearcut logging.  Hutchery Creek, Powers Creek (HUM: T6N R2E Sec.20, 21, 28, 29, 32, 33).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 80%, landslide terrain, 15 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, bald eagle, trees up to 72" dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 06/26/17. VIEW

This THP is just SE of the town of Blue Lake, CA and Highway 299 and adjacent to the former California Redwood Company (a subsidiary of Green Diamond Resource Company) in Korbel.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir and grand fir forests at an elevation of 200 to 1,000 feet.  The THP area flows into the Mad River which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment, temperature and turbidity.  There are 12 unstable areas in the THP including 6 unstable areas in unit C, 3 unstable areas in unit D and 3 unstable areas in unit E.  15 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning, culvert repair/replacement and restoration of washed out crossings.  There is a bald eagle territory 2.3 miles south of the THP area, and 12+ spotted owl nesting territories within 1.3 miles, including spotted owl nesting territories within .5 miles of units C and E.
