Green Diamond Resource Company to log SE of the town of Smith River, CA.

THP 1-17-131 DEL (Little Mor THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 162 acres; 40% commercial thin, 38% clearcut, 16% selection, 6% no-harvest, misc roadside logging. Little Mill Creek, Savoy Creek (HUM: T18N R1E Sec.31; T18N R1W Sec.25, 36).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, landslide terrain, 7 road drainage work sites, steep slopes up to 70%, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, bald eagle, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 01/15/18. VIEW

This THP is about a mile SE of the town of Smith River, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 300 to 1,400 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation in redwood, Douglas fir and western hemlock forests. Shallow rapid landslides exist in units A, B, C and D, and there are 7 road drainage sites planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning, culvert repair/replacement and restoration of washed out crossings. An historic (1974) bald eagle nest was reported .5 miles from unit A.
