Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log adjacent to McKinleyville, CA

THP 1-17-130 HUM (Murray Road THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 99 acres; 76% clearcut, 24% selection, 1% roadside logging. Norton Creek, Mill Creek, Mather Creek (HUM: T6N R1E Sec.4; T7N R1E Sec.28, 33, 34).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 85%, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, cooper’s hawk, trees up to 60” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 01/15/18. VIEW

This THP is a mile east of McKinleyville, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 200 to 800 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in Douglas fir, Sitka spruce and grand fir forests.  The THP area flows into the Mad River watershed which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment, turbidity and temperature.  In 2012, a Cooper’s hawk was reported 2.1 miles north of unit A, and there are spotted owl nesting territories within .25 miles of units A and B.
