Humboldt Redwood Company to log trees up to 60” dbh SW of Scotia, CA.

THP 1-17-142 HUM (Chase Ranch THP) Humboldt Redwood Company, 97.1 acres; 43% variable retention, 34% selection, 23% no-harvest, misc roadside logging.  Beer Bottle (HUM: T1N R1W Sec.36; T1S R1W Sec.1, 2).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 65%, landslide terrain, 19 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, trees up to 60” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 02/03/18. VIEW

This THP is about 4 miles SW of Scotia, CA and about 10 miles NW of Redcrest, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 800 to 1,660 feet.  Humboldt Redwood Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in Douglas fir and grand fir forests. The THP area flows into the Bear River and Pacific Ocean and is listed as an impaired watershed for temperature. There are 12 landslide terrain sites (debris slides and debris slide slopes) in the THP area. 19 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  Five spotted owl nesting territories are located within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
