Roseburg Resources Company to clearcut log NW of Burney, CA.

THP 2-17-080 SHA (Amp THP) Roseburg Resources Company, 749 acres; 96% clearcut, 4% selection logging. Deep Creek, Little Roaring Creek, Bush Bar (MD: T36N R1E Sec.17, 18, 19, 20, 30; T36N R1W Sec.13, 23, 24, 25, 36).  Winter operations, low erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 60%, 64 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, osprey, bald eagle, northern goshawk, English peak greenbriar, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 01/27/18. VIEW

This THP is about 12 miles NW of Burney, CA and about 7 miles north of Montgomery Creek, CA and Highway 299 at an elevation of 2,800 to 3,600 feet.  Roseburg Resources Company is planning a tractor based clearcut logging operation in Douglas fir, white fir, incense cedar, sugar pine and ponderosa pine forests.  The use of an existing haul road across an unstable area is proposed outside of the THP area, and the use and construction of roads, landings and crossings are proposed during the winter period.  64 road drainage sites are planned for use including rocking, dip construction, rocking, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/restoration.  In 2015, a northern goshawk was discovered less than .25 miles from unit 3002, and osprey and bald eagle are seen frequently along the Pit River.  English peak greenbriar was found within units 1904, 3001, 2502, 2504, 2506, 1902, 2001, 1801 and 1303.
