Humboldt Redwood Company to log inside large tree marbled murrelet stands 373C and 583D near Redcrest, CA.

THP 1-18-011 HUM (Threadbear THP) Humboldt Redwood Company, 314.5 acres; 53% variable retention, 41% group selection, 5% no-harvest, 1% selection logging. Bear Creek (HUM: T1S R2E Sec.5, 6, 7, 8, 17).  Winter operations, moderate erosion hazard, slopes up to 50%, landslide terrain, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, logging inside large tree stands 373C and 583D, coho watershed, northern spotted owl, trees up to 36” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 03/09/18. VIEW

This THP is about a mile west of Redcrest, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 560 to 2,600 feet.  Humboldt Redwood Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation in Redwood, Douglas fir and grand fir forests.  The THP area flows into the Eel River which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment and temperature.  There are 13 landslide terrain sites (mostly debris slides) in the THP area.  Logging is proposed inside large tree marbled murrelet stands 373C and 583D. There are 5 spotted owl nesting territories within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
