Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log NE of Trinidad, CA.

THP 1-18-015 HUM (CR 1900 THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 121 acres; 73% clearcut, 25% selection, 2% no-harvest logging. McDonald Creek (HUM: T8N R1E Sec.7, 18; T8N R1W Sec.1, 12).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 70%, 3 road drainage work sites sites, impaired 303.d watershed, oversized units, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, marbled murrelet, osprey, great blue heron, southern torrent salamander, coastal tailed frog, running pine, trees up to 40” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 03/27/18. VIEW

This THP is 1.5 miles NE of Trinidad, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 400 to 1,400 feet. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in redwood, Douglas fir and bishop pine forests.  An osprey nest is located within .25 miles of the LP Mill Road, 2 osprey nests are located within .25 miles of the BL 2000 Road, and potential marbled murrelet habitat exists on Humboldt Redwoods State Park lands within .25 miles of the LP Mill Road.  A great blue heron rockery exists .22 miles east of the the BL 2000 Road, coastal tailed frogs are known to to occur in or immediately adjacent to units A and D, and southern torrent salamanders are known to occur in or immediately adjacent to unit A. Running pine was reported within a class II (mid sized) watercourse area in unit C, and within unit B.
