Green Diamond Resource Company to log NE of McKinleyville, CA.

THP 1-18-033 HUM (Upper Fork Thin THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 353.5 acres; 86% commercial thin, 13% no-harvest, misc clearcut, selection and roadside logging. Lower South Fork, Headwaters Little River (HUM: T7N R1E Sec.1; T7N R2E Sec.4, 6, 7, 8, 10; T8N R1E Sec.36; T8N R2E Sec.31, 33).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 85%, unstable area, 13 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, peregrine falcon, foothill yellow legged frog, trees up to 28” dbh.  Estimated public comment deadline: 05/12/18. VIEW

This THP is about 8 mies SE of Trinidad, CA and Highway 101, and about 6 miles NE of McKinleyville, CA at an elevation of 280 to 2,060 feet. Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood, Douglas fir and western hemlock forests.  There is an unstable area in unit F.  13 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  An historic peregrine falcon eyrie is located 1.1 miles SW of unit F, and foothill yellow legged frogs have been spotted within 300 feet of unit A.  Spotted owl nesting territories are located within .25 miles of unit G, and within .5 miles of units E and F.
