This THP is about 35 miles SE of Sacramento, CA and about 6 miles NE of Barton, CA along the Carson Pass Highway (units 2204, 2201 and 2104 are adjacent to Highway 88). Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in ponderosa pine, sugar pine, incense cedar, white fir and Douglas fir forests at an elevation of 4,160 to 5,200 feet. They also want to use temporary roads and landings during the winter period, and use ground based equipment in areas designated for cable logging along the SW portion of unit 2104, and at multiple locations throughout unit 2201. In 2002, a CA red legged frog was reported within .25 miles of the THP area in Section 21. Coleman’s piperia was found in unit 2201, also near unit 1610, and Sierra Clarkia and Pleasant valley mariposa lily were found between units 2205 and 2206. There are CA spotted owl nesting territories within 1 mile of the THP area in sections 15 and 22.
