This THP is 3 miles north of Lakehead, CA near Lake Shasta, and about 25 miles north of Redding, CA at an elevation of 1,360 to 2,360 feet.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in ponderosa pine, Douglas fir, sugar pine and incense cedar forests.  There are 2 unstable areas in units 25A and 25D where cable logging operations will be conducted, and 2 road sites with a debris slide and a fill slope debris slide.  SPI is planning to use ground based equipment in areas designated for cable logging inside units 25A, 25B, 25D and 29A.  26 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  In 1994, a foothill yellow legged frog was reported inside unit 25B in section 25, and in 2006, a foothill yellow legged frog was reported 5,864 feet from the THP area in section 35.  Shasta maidenhair fern was found inside units 25C, 25E, 31A, and along a proposed road in unit 25E.
