This THP is about 22 miles NE of Redding, CA and about 5 miles NE of Lakehead, CA near Shasta Lake at an elevation of 2,200 to 4,200 feet.  Section 25 is adjacent to the West Girard Roadless Area.  Sierra Pacific Industries is planning a clearcut cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in Douglas fir, ponderosa pine, sugar pine and incense cedar forests.  Unit 25C has a small unstable area near the bottom of a proposed road crossing.  SPI wants to build a road across state lands to access their lands, construct steep segments of roads on slopes exceeding 65%, and construct roads and landings during the winter period. In 2007, a Sierra Nevada yellow legged frog was reported .75 miles east of unit 25D in section 30, and there is an historic (1982) report of a spotted owl in or adjacent to the THP area.
