Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log NE of Eureka, CA.

THP 1-18-085 HUM (Ole Jacoby THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 178 acres: 55% clearcut, 39% selection, 6% no-harvest, misc roadside logging. Fay Slough, Lower Jacoby Creek (HUM: T5N R1E Sec.10, 15, 16, 21).  Wet weather operations, moderate erosion hazard, steep slopes up to 65%, landslide terrain, 3 road drainage work sites, impaired 303.d watershed, herbicides, coho watershed, spotted owl, osprey, peregrine falcon, tailed frog, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 09/29/18. This THP is about 4 miles NE of Eureka, CA and about 1.5 miles south of Bayside, CA and Highway 101 at an elevation of 80 to 640 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood and Douglas fir forests. There are 10 landslide terrain sites in the THP area including 6 unstable areas in unit C, and 4 unstable areas in unit F.  The THP area is located within the Lower Jacoby watershed which is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment.  Three historic peregrine falcon nest sites are located in the THP area, a bald eagle nest is located within .5 miles of the THP area, and tailed frogs are known to occur immediately adjacent to unit C.  There are historic and active osprey nests within the THP area including; 10 nests within .25 miles of unit A, 8 nests within .25 miles of unit B, 3 nests within unit C, 13 nests within .25 miles of unit C, 9 nests within .25 miles of unit D, 6 nests within .25 miles of unit E, and 9 nests within .25 miles of unit F. Spotted owl nesting territories are located within .25 miles of units B and C, and within .5 miles of units A and D.
