This THP is 3.5 miles NE of Elk, CA and 5 miles SE of Albion, CA near the Navarro River (there are 4 THP units adjacent) at an elevation of 50 to 1,160 feet.  Mendocino Redwood Company is planning a tractor and cable logging operation on steep and unstable slopes in redwood and Douglas fir forests.  There are 7 landslide terrain sites in the THP area including multiple debris slides, disrupted ground, earth flows, and multiple wet areas within THP units.  The THP area flows into the Navarro River and is listed as an impaired watershed for sediment and temperature. Mendocino Redwood Company is planning to use ground based equipment on existing skid trails in areas designated for cable logging.  10 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement.  In 2017, a pair of bald eagles were observed in the THP area near the Navarro River, and 3 osprey nests are located near the THP area, including; 1 osprey nest within the THP area, 1 osprey nest 3,000 feet downstream from the THP area, and 1 osprey nest along the Navarro River within a mile of THP units. Bolander’s reed grass was observed on roads and landings in the THP area, and leafy stemmed miterwort was found on a road along the northern boundary of the THP area.  There are 9 spotted owl nesting territories within .7 miles of the THP area.
