Green Diamond Resource Company to clearcut log near Pelican Bay State Prison by Crescent City, CA.

THP 1-18-107 DEL (Fort Dick THP) Green Diamond Resource Company, 197.5 acres; 82% clearcut, 17% selection, 2% no-harvest logging.  King’s Valley, Little Mill Creek, Upper Jordan Valley (HUM: T17N R01W Sec 13 , 22, 24, 27).  Wet weather operations, low erosion hazard, slopes up to 50%, 12 road drainage work sites, herbicides, coho watershed, northern red legged frog, foothill yellow legged frog, scattered large trees.  Estimated public comment deadline: 11/12/18. This THP is about 5 miles NE of Crescent City, CA near Highway 101 and Pelican Bay State Prison at an elevation of 100 to 400 feet.  Green Diamond Resource Company is planning a mostly clearcut tractor and cable logging operation in redwood, Douglas fir, Sitka spruce and western hemlock forests.  12 road drainage sites are planned for work including rocking, dip construction, ditch cleaning and culvert repair/replacement. Foothill yellow legged frogs were reported 1 mile NE of unit A, and northern red legged frogs were reported in units F and G.  There is 1 spotted owl nesting territory within 1.3 miles of the THP area.
